To assist you better, I would like to know the make and model of the computer would also like to know whether you are using synaptic touch pad drivers. This issue may arise due to change in the settings of the touchpad software or due to driver conflicts. I am using a Dell Inspiron 15R. Grateful for further advice! Touchpad drives will be detected ether as Synaptics touchpad, if it using Synaptic drivers, or else it might me under Mice and other pointing device or under Human Interface Device. To assist you better, I suggest you to provide me the screenshot of the device manager, I also suggest you to expand the Mice and other pointer option when providing the screenshot.
