The product gets installed smoothly and starts working but it is also telling me to activate before 18th of March to enjoy uninterrupted use by supplying them with the Product key.

It also gives me an option to get the product activated by using my active Microsoft account. When I put my product key it says, \”this key is related to some other version of office\”. When I put my active account there it says, \”this account is related to some other product.

The first point indicates that you are at the end of the 30 day \”free trial\”. You have to activate it by the deadline or it will go into limited function mode. A very standard message. This second message suggests that there is more than one version of Office installed on your computer.

Look to see if you have more than one version of Office installed. If you do, uninstall the \”wrong\” one and do an Office Repair of the remaining one. Since you do not have any other versions of Office installed, try performing a repair of the current Office Professional Plus version. Or you may right-click on it and click on the Repair option. After repair is completed restart your computer and try opening an Office application.

Check if you are prompted to activate Office again. If so, try activating with the Product Key or Microsoft Account credentials. Though it says on the top, \”Select the program and click on Uninstall, Change or Repair but after selecting no repair option is given.

Sometimes the repair option appears after you click on the Change option. See if are able to access the repair option after clicking on Change. I tried that and I got the option of Repair after I clicked on change. But first I clicked on the option of \”quick repair\” and when it did not work I went for \”full repair\” which took considerable amount of time.

But even after that to activate I was being asked for the product key and when I provided the product key the refused it as invalid. I want to repeat again that the same key I used when I installed it for the first time. I just want to that is there any rule prevailing with these product that only certain number of times one will be allowed to reinstall the product. I had bought office but I never faced this kind of problem. I installed it many times due to various reasons on my lap top as well as on my desk top but never faced any problem.

In the license terms, there is no limit on the number of times you can re-install Office on the same computer. Even after doing various hardware and software upgrades you are allowed to re-install on the same computer. Depending on how many changes you make at the same time you MAY be asked as you are now to re-activate by providing the product key. The only hardware change that is not allowed is replacing the mother board.

Then it is considered a new computer, even if all of the other parts are from the old computer. Even then, you could install on that computer, it would just be considered a \”transfer\” to a new computer. Whether the transfer would be accepted depends on the specific license type you have.

Office is a little strange, it could be stand alone install requiring the product key directly, or it could require that you use the MyAccount page to do the re-install. Have you tried going to the MyAccount page? There is a chance that your license was registered with your email account. In that case you might see the invalid key message, but you would also be able to re-install from the MyAccount page. Check to see if your Product Key is associated with Microsoft Account: office.
